To my family of patients,

It is with mixed emotions that I let you know I am formally retiring and officially passing the torch to my amazing daughter, Brittany VanBuskirk, DDS.  After 40 years of practicing dentistry, it is time for the old guy to move out of the way. Many of you have been with me since the beginning and I have worked on three generations for many families. While it is sad that I won’t be seeing you in the office two or more times a year, the memories are always there. It has been so fun to watch many of you grow up from little kids, into adults, then treating you and your kids, then treating you, your kids, AND your grandchildren!  I’ve enjoyed your successes as you moved thru life and was saddened with your challenges. I have treasured getting to know each of you and value your friendship, confidence, and loyalty.

Dentistry can be a challenging career, there a plenty of unhappy dentists out there. I’m not one of them. I’m the happiest dentist around and I’m sure most of you would agree. Having such a fantastic family of patients and a great staff have made my career and life enjoyable and rewarding. It has been an honor to take care of you all these years. I’ve been amazed by your skills, talents, knowledge, and hobbies. I have learned many things from you and value every memory. I have enjoyed attending my patients gigs, concerts, sporting events, wine tastings, plays, and even traveling with many of you. There were plenty of laughs which are rare in other dental offices. The friendships that we share warm my heart. I look forward to getting together with many of you outside the office to make more memories.

I have been blessed with a talented, professional, and loyal staff. Most have been with me over 30 years! They made a pleasant environment, and it has been a privilege and pleasure to work with such a compassionate team. Shout out to Dr. Leske who I’ve shared the office with since 1985. He is a true friend and talented colleague and we have had a lot of fun through the years.

Now on to the one of the proudest parts of my career/life. My daughter Brittany has wanted to be a dentist since she was 6 years old! She always had a keen interest in science and constantly asked me questions about dentistry. She worked in our office for 10 years, starting at age 14. This experience was invaluable as she entered Dental School as she could expand her education much faster than her classmates since she knew the instruments, materials, procedures, and how they all fit together. She is a perfectionist and passionate about dentistry like very few out there. Now we all have something in common, we have the same dentist!  It is very comforting to place you in her hands, and it is hard to express how proud I am to be her father. The pride of having your daughter follow in your professional footsteps is amazing. She is just as amazing as a daughter, wife, and mother. Brittany and her husband Kevin have blessed us with our twin grandchildren, Liam and Sophie. They are a big part of our lives. If I knew how fun grandchildren were, I would have had them first!

What am I going to do with my extra time? We have a house on Lake Oakland in Waterford, many of you have been there, where we enjoy pontoon rides, kayaking, swimming, and lake life.  We also have a house in The Villages, Florida where we hope to spend our winters golfing, playing pickleball, socializing, and other fun. Many of you have also purchased homes there and I look forward to spending time together.  Look me up if you are down there! The grandkids enjoy both places and we are looking forward to spending time with them, and future grandkids. I have always been a car guy and not sure what the next car/project will be. We also plan on lots of travel, new adventures, new experiences, and making memories!

As of January 1st, 2023, the practice is officially owned by “VanBuskirk Dental”.  I thank you all again for the many wonderful years you have spent with me, and I know that Dr. Brittany is looking forward to many more.

Sincerely,

Kevin N. Schierlinger, DDS
